Q&A with Casual Hoya on Georgetown/Robert Morris

On the second Saturday of the season, Georgetown will host their second NEC program in the young season, Robert Morris. The Hoyas have made easy work of their first two opponents in St. Francis Brooklyn (that writeup is here) and Texas A&M Corpus Christi, so the Colonials enter as heavy underdogs (a 5% chance of winning according to KenPom). NEC Recap – Nov. 19, Robert Morris Gets Back On Track

It hasn’t been a good start for the Northeast Conference, but tonight the league had a chance to earn some victories against mid-major equals. Let’s see how everyone fared on the first Wednesday of the 2014-15 season! Continue reading “NEC Recap – Nov. 19, Robert Morris Gets Back On Track”

NEC Recap – November 14, The Opening Night

With eight NEC programs beginning their 2014-15 season tonight, we summarized all of the opening night action. Going in, it wasn’t expected to be a strong night for the conference — according to KenPom, five of the eight teams were overwhelming underdogs (10% chance to win or less) with only Robert Morris considered as a moderate favorite (70%) over Lafayette. A New Generation of NEC Point Guards Ready to Emerge

Because point guard play has been a strength for the NEC in previous seasons, it’s expected the position will take a significant step back with the graduations of Julian Norfleet, Sidney Sanders, Jr., and Jason Brickman – the latest NCAA student athlete to crack 1,000 career assists. All three all-conference first teamers will be sorely missed. We’d also be remiss failing to acknowledge the departures of Kenny Ortiz, Corey Maynard and Anthony Myers-Pate, all of whom were also solid to terrific contributors on teams in contention for an NCAA berth.

Way Too Early NEC All-Conference Teams

In the spirit of the “way too early” theme that’s constantly bestowed upon us this college basketball offseason, we attempted to formulate our own NEC all-conference teams, even if the first official jump ball is four months away. Continue reading “Way Too Early NEC All-Conference Teams”

Breaking Down the 2014 NEC Transfers

With a majority of the NEC basketball scholarships filled for the 2014-15 season, it’s an excellent time to go over the conference’s transfer list. While this list isn’t final (remember, Shivaughn Wiggins leaving Mount St. Mary’s in July last season?), we’d be surprised if there was more activity this offseason. So without further ado, let’s break down the most important players departing from the NEC. Continue reading “Breaking Down the 2014 NEC Transfers”
