Yale 59, Harvard 50: Home-Court Advantage Long Time Coming

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – There have been a few times that I’ve seen Lee Amphitheater full and rocking, and it’s one of my favorite sights in all the sporting world: an ancient cathedral whose history can be heard – even from the rafters – with every bounce of the ball and gasp of the crowd.

Alas, my recollections of Yale’s septuagenarian home growing up are mostly of the place being packed to see the other team, which doesn’t necessarily mean they were cheering for Pete Carril and Princeton or Fran Dunphy and Penn or even Steve Donahue and Cornell, but they were certainly the main attraction, and on the other nights of the Ivy season? Well, Ingalls Rink and the Yale hockey team was down the street.

Robert Morris 73, Sacred Heart 63: No Quit In Toole And Colonials

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Andy Toole didn’t look like a coach whose team was 9-20 Thursday night at the Pitt Center. And he certainly didn’t have the look of someone who was leading his team to their first losing record in more than a decade.

Toole and Robert Morris have a resume second to none in the NEC in the past few seasons. The Colonials have won 20 games in four straight seasons, posted a 65-23 conference record under their current coach, and won a postseason game (two NIT and one NCAA) contest in each of the last three campaigns.

NEC Recap, February 25 – Jockeying For Playoff Positioning

Just because the NEC tournament teams have all clinched doesn’t mean the final week of the regular season won’t be exciting! Everyone was jockeying for position coming into tonight, so it’s time to break down the action in a league where the home team has a losing record (39-41) in NEC play. Shavar Newkirk Helping Drive St. Joe’s Turnaround

This is a guest post by Ronak Patel. The humbling of a New York native is a big reason for the turnaround St. Joseph’s is experiencing this season. The play of sophomore point guard Shavar Newkirk has helped the Hawks — who won 13 games last season —  to a 23-5 overall mark, tied for first in the Atlantic 10. Fairfield 76, Siena 69: Runnin’ Stags Run All The Way To Bye

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. –  Let’s be honest, we all thought the Runnin’ Stags thing was just a clever gimmick for Sydney Johnson and Fairfield, right? Coming off 7-25 and 7-24 campaigns, Fairfield again started 0-3 and then struggled to beat then fellow-struggler Sacred Heart in overtime.

That game went 82 possessions, but it was seen more as Sacred Heart’s doing than Fairfield’s, but the 89-possession pummeling of Maryland-Eastern Shore that followed was an eye opener, and the Runnin’ Stags dragged 75 trips out of a pretty good Columbia team and beat them in doing it. The real turning point from ha-ha to hmmm came right after Christmas when Fairfield ran current Patriot League leader Bucknell out of Sojka Pavilion 101-91 in 86 (?!?) possessions.
