I thought today would be the end. I had planned on doing a roundup of all the games the NYC Buckets coverage had played in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament and beyond and that would be it. Continue reading “A Stunning Win (And Other Thoughts)”

Four Thoughts On The NIT Bracket
The NIT bracket is out. I did alright projecting the bracket this season, missing just two teams (Stanford and BYU), both of which I thought had a good shot of being in the field. I had 17 teams seeded exactly correct with another nine within one line. Overall I finished right in the middle of the pack among an extremely competitive field of five NIT bracketologists this season. Continue reading “Four Thoughts On The NIT Bracket”
NIT Bracket Thoughts: Feb. 25, 2018
About half of the teams in Division I have finished their regular season (or will shortly). As Joe Lunardi tweeted on Sunday night the brackets are starting to look like the real thing. Continue reading “NIT Bracket Thoughts: Feb. 25, 2018”
Discussing the NIT: Feb. 19, 2018
Conference season is winding down and my end-of-season NIT projection is starting to look quite similar to some “if the season ended today” NCAA Tournament projections. (Along with a tiny track record representing between a third to a tenth of a total schedule.) Continue reading “NIT Bracketology: Dec. 1 Edition”
NIT Bracketology: Preseason Edition
Projecting the NIT in the preseason is an absolute fools errand, but I’m going to do it anyways. I used a combination of Ken Pomeroy and Bart Torvik’s preseason projections to build my NCAA Tournament and NIT brackets. Continue reading “NIT Bracketology: Preseason Edition”
Cal State Bakersfield’s Cinderella Run Ends In NIT Semifinals
The dream of back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances died on March 11, 2017, but Cal State Bakersfield and head coach Rod Barnes still did something no team had ever done before. Continue reading “Cal State Bakersfield’s Cinderella Run Ends In NIT Semifinals”
Team Selection And Seeding Is Broken, Here’s How To Fix It
Illinois St. left out of the field completely. Monmouth not even considered. Princeton needing an automatic bid. Wichita St. a 10 seed. Thanks to the NCAA Tournament selection committee’s focus on RPI derivatives (not even the metric itself) the accomplishments by mid-majors are consistently undervalued. Continue reading “Team Selection And Seeding Is Broken, Here’s How To Fix It”
Wrapping Up NIT Bracketology
The NIT bracket is out and the road to Madison Square Garden begins. Here’s a quick look at the choices the committee made and how projections fared. Continue reading “Wrapping Up NIT Bracketology”
