Manhattan’s Swagger On Full Display As Jaspers Rout Monmouth
Manhattan coach Steve Masiello never hides the fact that he’s a Rick Pitino disciple through and through. He played for Pitino at Kentucky, assisted with him at Louisville, and now much of the success he’s had in Riverdale is employing the same style of coming after opponents with pressure and traps and anything else to make it difficult to traverse the 94 feet from one hoop to the other without coughing it up. Can Monmouth (Or Anyone) Stay With Iona In MAAC Race?
After burying Quinnipiac in a barrage of second half three-pointers Tuesday night at the Hynes Center, the assembled media grilled consensus MAAC favorite Iona about the pressure of being the league leader. David Laury did his best to dance around the loaded questions, and showed his veteran leadership by being tremendously diplomatic.
“We definitely have a chance to establish ourselves, but this is the MAAC,” Laury said. “This conference is a great conference. On any given night, anyone could lose. You can’t just say it’s Iona and everyone else in the conference, there’s great teams in the conference.”

MAAC Stock Watch: Dec. 8
This week’s MAAC Stock Watch was delayed slightly thanks to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference coaches conference call. Canisius and Fairfield share the top spot in the conference through the first weekend of MAAC play, just as everyone expected. Niagara’s reign over the top spot lasted fewer than two games and Quinnipiac shares the conference basement with Saint Peter’s.
