Previewing the preview magazines: Lindy’s

Here at Big Apple Buckets we can’t wait for the season to begin. If you don’t believe me just check out my calendar. The two big preview magazines in college basketball are Lindy’s and Athlon. Of course you should also get Basketball Prospectus 2013 at some point, but we’ll discuss that in more depth later. While I recommend you buy all three, here’s some facts to whet your whistle with Lindy’s.

NEC non-conference games to watch for the 2012-13 season

Yesterday, Robert Morris finally released their out-of-conference schedule, making them the last NEC team to do so.  Several NEC teams are playing their fair share of marquee games throughout the non-conference slate, therefore we’ve sifted through all the non-conference games to give you the ones you should keep on your radar this upcoming season.

Manhattan’s reveals ambitious non-conference schedule

Almost everyone returns from Steve Masiello’s first season in Riverdale and that appears to have given the young coach some confidence. The Jaspers will be preparing to battle Loyola (MD) and the rest of the MAAC with a very difficult non-conference slate. One that if navigated correctly, could be a boost come March.

What is the best NYC program of the past 50 years?

ESPN has concluded its 50 in 50 series. Of course, in order to figure out the Top 50 teams the stats department had to rank every team that played at least 15 seasons of Division I basketball during that time period (309 total). MAAC Discussion: League’s Top 10

A few weeks ago we looked at the Top 10 players in the NEC, now I want to do the same exercise with the MAAC. This league is a lot tougher because of all the turnover and transfers coming in. There is no dominant team, so six of the 10 teams probably think they have a legitimate shot at winning the title. There’s also the pesky problem of transfers that aren’t eligible immediately or might not be eligible at all this season. I’m leaving those players off my Top 10 for now, but I’d certainly be willing to consider them in the future.
