Manhattan’s Masiello on Beamon: He’s Unguardable

Manhattan head coach Steve Masiello said he had some words for redshirt senior George Beamon on the sideline during their Saturday night game against Fairfield.

“I’m furious at him and I say that because he’s unguardable off the bounce,” Masiello said. “He’s one of the best one-on-one players in the country, no one can stop him off the bounce and sometimes I think he bails the defense out and settles.”

“He has the green light to shoot the ball whenever he wants in this offense, but when he’s in a one-on-one situation I don’t think there’s anyone that can stop him. I think he’s the best player in this conference, I think he’s unguardable and I want him to assert himself on every play. He’s a guy who got to the free throw line 11 times, last game 14 times, 25 attempts in the last two games and that’s what I want to see from him. He can constantly drive people. We had a little one-sided conversation would you say and he adjusted to it and we went from there.”

Beamon, who won Big Apple Buckets player of the week on Monday, averages a team-high 21.6 points per game this season. The senior has made more free throws (107) than any other player in the conference.

Manhattan has won eight straight games and is 4-0 in the MAAC for the first time since the 2005-06 season.

Army and Lafayette Push Substitutions Limit

If you were just watching who comes in and out of an Army basketball game you might think that you accidentally went to the wrong arena. Complete line changes make it seems like a hockey game has broken out. The Black Knights’ Zach Spiker has a 12-man rotation and it’s not uncommon to see five new players take the court at once. Sunday Roundup – Dec. 15

All-in-all Sunday wasn’t a bad day to be a team from the New York City area. Metro area teams were a decisive 3-1 on the day – with the lone loss of course being in the highest profile game of the day – and even Marist earned its first win of the season by winning at College of Charleston. Here’s a quick look at each game. Continue reading “Sunday Roundup – Dec. 15”
