Zavier Turner was determined not to let Manhattan’s senior night end in disappointment. Honored before the game alongside fellow soon-to-be graduates Rich Williams, Calvin Crawford, and Zane Waterman, Turner stole the show Sunday night with a season-high 31 points along with eight assists to lead the Jaspers past Quinnipiac 92-86 in double overtime. A 17-4 run over the final five minutes of the first half helped Manhattan fend off Niagara and pull even at 8-8 in conference play. There’s a lot to love about the MAAC as we hit the final two weeks of the regular season. It was an eventful week in the MAAC, and one full of rivalry games. The Battle of the Bridge was renewed in Buffalo, the New Jersey trio squared off against one another in the Hourglass rivalry, Fairfield and Quinnipiac met for the first time this season, along with Iona and Manhattan, and I’m pretty sure Siena and Saint Peter’s don’t want to see each other again for a long time. Another week gone in the MAAC, and we’re finally starting to see some separation between the league’s 11 squads. Canisius put its stamp on first place with a season sweep of Iona while Rider strung together three victories to join the Golden Griffins at seven league wins despite continued struggles at the free throw line. Heading into the meat of the conference season, we are beginning to see some separation in the MAAC standings. Iona and Canisius both swept the week and currently sit in a tie atop the league standing at 5-1. The second week of MAAC play brought as many surprises as the first. We have a new top team this week (but one that’s been there before!) after winless Siena upset undefeated Canisius, proving just how wide-open the league is this year. There is plenty of movement in the middle of the rankings as well after Niagara evened its record at 2-2 and Manhattan dropped a pair.

These are the final MAAC Power Rankings before the start of non-conference play this week. This season, the MAAC shifted from a 20-game schedule to an 18 game slate in which each team will forego one home and one road contest.
