This week’s MAAC Stock Watch was delayed slightly thanks to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference coaches conference call. Canisius and Fairfield share the top spot in the conference through the first weekend of MAAC play, just as everyone expected. Niagara’s reign over the top spot lasted fewer than two games and Quinnipiac shares the conference basement with Saint Peter’s. Siena opened MAAC play Friday evening with a resounding 88-67 victory over Quinnipiac to start 1-0 in the conference. After dropping a difficult two-point road loss at Fordham earlier in the week, the Saints looked to be headed to another close game as they entered halftime leading the Bobcats by just two – 40-38. However, Siena blew the doors open early in the second half and never let Quinnipiac get close. Here are three thoughts from Friday evening’s victory:

While Stony Brook might be disappointed they missed out on another NCAA tournament chance, they will have to quickly regroup because they are running into a very tough Siena Saints team on Tuesday night to open the College Basketball Invitational. Here are a few things to watch in that game.
The ball finally bounced the Saints’ way late as Siena snapped Quinnipiac’s seven-game winning streak and extended their own streak to three with a gutsy 72-70 victory Thursday night at the TD Bank Sports Center.
