Siena’s Patsos Tabs Saints “On Schedule”

Sitting two games away from the end of his first regular season with the Siena Saints, head coach Jimmy Patsos said that his effort to rebuild the program is “on schedule.”

“I wouldn’t say ahead, we’re on,” Patsos said when asked whether his team was ahead of schedule. “I thought this team would be pretty good. I didn’t know how good Marquis Wright was going to be, I thought he’d be good, but I knew [Rob] Poole was going to be good and I thought [Evan] Hymes would be better.” Continue reading “Siena’s Patsos Tabs Saints “On Schedule””

The Race for 5th in the MAAC

With four games left on the MAAC slate, the standings are starting to take shape.  One glance at the conference standings, and you will see the teams have separated themselves into three distinct tiers:

At the top, Iona leads the pack two games clear of Manhattan, Quinnipiac, and Canisius, who remain deadlocked in a tie for second place. Iona looks to be in the driver’s seat for the regular season title while the other three have all but clinched a first round bye in the upcoming MAAC tournament. Siena’s game plan was to be the more physical team Saturday night.  They executed that plan from start to finish, and it was exactly what doomed them in their 103-95 loss to Quinnipiac in overtime at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY. Continue reading “Quinnipiac 103, Siena 95 (OT)”

Three Thoughts: Siena 64, Fairfield 56

This is the first time I’ve seen the Siena Saints live and in person under head coach Jimmy Patsos. While getting a look at the Saints, I also got another look at the Fairfield Stags during Siena’s 64-56 victory at Webster Bank Arena on Sunday. Instead of John’s five thoughts, I’m going with three lasting thoughts from Sunday’s game. Continue reading “Three Thoughts: Siena 64, Fairfield 56”

Siena’s Patsos Set to Reset Marist Rivalry

This may be a matchup of two first year head coaches in a rivalry game, but Siena head coach Jimmy Patsos has experienced that Marist can be a tough matchup.

Patsos, whose career record against Marist is 11-7 and just 3-6 at McCann Arena, will not have to worry about traveling to Poughkeepsie until February. However, he will have to deal with a Red Foxes team at the Times Union Center that has won five games in a row for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
