LIU Brooklyn is still alive! The Blackbirds go into the final weekend with their opportunity to defend the NEC championship still intact thanks to a victory on Tuesday over Sacred Heart. The odds are still long though. LIU has about a 24% chance of securing the eighth and final spot in the tournament. Continue reading “Tempo-Free NEC: LIU Brooklyn’s Final Chase”

NEC Roundup – February 22
The days of the NEC regular season are dwindling. You can tell because teams are starting to clinch the playoff positions we’ve only spoken about as hypotheticals for much of the season. A big congratulations to Andy Toole and the Robert Morris Colonials for clinching the No. 1 seed in the NEC tournament. All roads to the NCAA tournament now go through Moon Township, PA.

After another exciting night of NEC hoops, the standings are really starting to take shape with LIU Brooklyn and Sacred Heart needing a miracle to qualify for the postseason tourney. Here’s another NEC roundup of the action from the second to last Thursday of the regular season. Continue reading “NEC Roundup – February 20”
Tempo-Free NEC: The Player of the Year Chase
The race for the NEC Player of the Year is picking up steam. I think most pundits would have Robert Morris’ Karvel Anderson leading Bryant’s Alex Francis at the moment. It certainly makes sense. Continue reading “Tempo-Free NEC: The Player of the Year Chase”

Kyle Vinales’ Return Gives CCSU Renewed Life
Standing with arms akimbo, Howie Dickenman surveyed his team as they were struggling to open the second half of Saturday afternoon’s game. After knocking down five straight three-pointers, spurring an improbable 21-5 run out of halftime, Fairleigh Dickinson (FDU) held a 13-point lead five minutes into the second frame. During the barrage of Knight rainmakers, not once did Dickenman call a timeout to stop the bleeding. He simply stood there with a frown. Robert Morris Adapting To 2-3 Zone Look
Three weeks ago the Robert Morris season was thrown into turmoil. Four players were suspended, including some key contributors. It looks like the first place Colonials were just hanging on by a thread until one of the other challengers was ready to replace RMU atop the NEC standings. Continue reading “Robert Morris Adapting To 2-3 Zone Look”
Tempo-Free NEC: We Agree Now
A weird thing happened on the way to an NEC championship, the tempo-free metrics and standings decided to agree. Yeah, I know it’s weird. Robert Morris’ blowout of St. Francis Brooklyn has pushed the Colonials to the top. Continue reading “Tempo-Free NEC: We Agree Now”
NEC Simulations: LIU Fighting For Its Life
There are just three weeks left in the NEC season. I don’t know about you, but this makes me a little wistful. There are still a ton of important games though. Teams are jockeying for position and for home NEC tournament games. A few teams are fighting just to make it into the tournament. Continue reading “NEC Simulations: LIU Fighting For Its Life”
NEC Roundup: Feb. 8
I’ve given in. Robert Morris is the best team in the NEC. I don’t care that they’re playing with eight players. They’re just that good right now. Bryant though is working hard to try and stay in shouting distance, just in case the Colonials slip up. The problem? The Bulldogs’ only two losses are to RMU. The rest of the league? What a mess. There are now three teams tied for third at 6-4 after another wild Saturday.
