Iona completed its perfect home slate with an energizing 79-75 win over Manhattan on Senior Night. The Gaels got a lift from the return of junior Isaiah Williams, who missed 12 games with a right foot injury. Williams contributed 12 points off the bench in his return. Three Tempo-Free MAAC Thoughts
This is a quick wrap up of some things I’ve been meaning to write about from around the MAAC, since I haven’t gotten a chance to because Vincent and Ryan Restivo have been killing it on the beat. For more of their work check out the MAAC page. Continue reading “Three Tempo-Free MAAC Thoughts”
Three Thoughts: Iona 70, Manhattan 67
This game deserves more than three thoughts. Iona and Manhattan battled for 40 minutes doing what each of them do best. In the end though A.J. English just did it a little bit better. Continue reading “Three Thoughts: Iona 70, Manhattan 67”
Manhattan Over .500, But Steve Masiello Strives For More
Reaching over .500 for the first time this season at 11-10 with an impressive 87-76 victory at Monmouth, you would think that Steve Masiello’s Manhattan Jaspers have started to click. Continue reading “Manhattan Over .500, But Steve Masiello Strives For More”
Manhattan’s Swagger On Full Display As Jaspers Rout Monmouth
Manhattan coach Steve Masiello never hides the fact that he’s a Rick Pitino disciple through and through. He played for Pitino at Kentucky, assisted with him at Louisville, and now much of the success he’s had in Riverdale is employing the same style of coming after opponents with pressure and traps and anything else to make it difficult to traverse the 94 feet from one hoop to the other without coughing it up. Manhattan Pulls Away Late to Down Siena 87-79
The battle of the two most penalized teams in the MAAC certainly lived up to the billing. After 40 minutes full of 46 fouls, 38 turnovers, 20 steals, and 63 combined free throw attempts, it was the Manhattan Jaspers squeaked away from Siena in the final minutes to come away with an 87-79 victory. Photo Gallery: Quinnipiac 73, Manhattan 59
We have plenty of coverage from Quinnipiac’s 73-59 victory over Manhattan on Friday night. Start with Ray Curren’s recap, to Drame’s big dunk and more. Here is a photo gallery from the Bobcats win that moves them to even in MAAC play through 10 games.

With Zaid Hearst Leading The Way, Here Comes Quinnipiac
For all intents and purposes, the game was over. Quinnipiac led by double digits and time was not only a factor, it precluded a Manhattan comeback with only 90 seconds left.
But as Manhattan sharpshooter Shane Richards ran off screens, Zaid Hearst was still with him every step of the way, just as he had been for the first 38 minutes of the game. Richards finally got one last good look when Hearst decided to switch with James Ford, but it rimmed out and Richards – who had scored 22, 21, and 21 in his last three games – put up a goose egg as Quinnipiac climbed back to .500 in the MAAC with an impressive 73-59 national television victory at the TD Bank Center Friday night.

Another Day, Another OT In The MAAC As Rider Edges Manhattan
In perhaps the meta moment of the wacky 2014-15 MAAC season thus far, Manhattan coach Steve Masiello perhaps explained perfectly why he shouldn’t be too angry after a tough 82-79 overtime loss to Rider Sunday at Draddy Gym … while being extremely angry about a home loss that would have seen his Jaspers (8-9, 5-3) be tied atop the conference standings as we near the halfway point. Tempo-Free MAAC: Jan. 14 Edition
We’re now six games into MAAC play. Monmouth is surprisingly tied with Iona atop the regular season standings at 5-1, but the tempo-free standings actually have a different team challenging the Gaels (though no one is really even close). Continue reading “Tempo-Free MAAC: Jan. 14 Edition”
