Finals once again made this a little bit of a light week, but Sunday and Saturday provided plenty of opportunities to shake up the rankings. The biggest movers this week really moved. We’ll see if things start to stabilize once conference play begins.

While both MAAC teams in action lost last night, the results had a bit of a different feel. Iona lost to La Salle 88-74, but Gaels fans are now excited by the excellent debut of David Laury. LIU Brooklyn looked lost and listless as it allowed 51 second half points against St. Peter’s in an 80-67 loss in Jersey City on Wednesday night.
After defeating Liberty at home on Tuesday night Iona has a quick turnaround for its game against La Salle on Thursday. The Gaels will be traveling to Philadelphia to take on the Explorers who are 6-2. The losses are to Central Connecticut and Bucknell. This will be a tricky one for Iona because of the quick turnaround, but it also potentially marks the beginning of David Laury’s time with the Gaels.
The wheels of conference realignment continued to turn throughout college basketball, yet the Northeast Conference (NEC) had come out relatively unscathed until recently. Last week, the MAAC Council of Presidents and Commissioner Rich Ensor swiftly approved NEC programs Quinnipiac and Monmouth as the newest full-time members of the MAAC. For Siena, a 2-9 start to the season has not been the way fans expected season three under head coach Mitch Buonaguro to go.
