There are 154 college basketball games today, which is awesome. The tricky part is that most of the New York schools played on the road this afternoon. Later I’ll have a full recap of the LIU Brooklyn – Monmouth game and cover the entire day in NEC basketball, but here are three other tough road games local teams faced today.

Long Island Basketball’s Revival
Stony Brook and Hofstra are both having success, in the process the two Long Island schools have switched identities. Continue reading “Long Island Basketball’s Revival”
10,000 Sims: Drexel’s Loss is George Mason’s Gain
When I ran the simulations in November for the CAA it was Drexel, Drexel and more Drexel. The Dragons looked like they’d be the class of the league. Well that hasn’t happened. Let’s look at three scenarios I mentioned at the top of the post at the beginning of the season.

5 Thoughts: Hofstra Gives Up 20-0 Run In Loss to Tulane
Hofstra was once again in a game at halftime, but, like the rest of the Pride’s seven-game losing streak, they couldn’t hold on in the second half. Tulane’s answer was swift. Ricky Tarrant hit three threes in the first two minutes of the second half and the Green Wave went on a 20-0 run that essentially ended the game. Tulane coasted to an 83-62 victory Saturday at Barclays. Continue reading “5 Thoughts: Hofstra Gives Up 20-0 Run In Loss to Tulane”
Coombs-McDaniel Out for Season
Jamal Coombs-McDaniel isn’t going to be the guy who saves Hofstra’s season. Pride fans received another dose of sobering news this morning when it was announced that the UConn transfer will miss the entire season due to a knee injury. Continue reading “Coombs-McDaniel Out for Season”
LIU Erases Big Deficit For Home Win Over Hofstra
LIU won its 30th straight game at the WRAC in dramatic fashion, erasing a 16-point deficit with 12:01 remaining and capturing an 88-84 victory over depleted Hofstra on Saturday afternoon. Continue reading “LIU Erases Big Deficit For Home Win Over Hofstra”
Preview: LIU vs. Hofstra
Hofstra goes on the road for the first time since its season was sent spiraling on Saturday at LIU Brooklyn. The Blackbirds are 2-4, but have won their past two games and are once again starting to look like a contender in the NEC. LIU also hopes to get Kenny Onyechi and Booker Hucks back for this game. Is it possible that Hofstra could have Jamal Coombs-McDaniel? It sure would help.
Four Hofstra Players Suspended Following Burglary Arrests
It appears Hofstra will be without starters Shaquille Stokes and Jimmy Hall as well as Kentrell Washington and Dallas Anglin following their arrests Thursday and accusation of stealing cash and electronics from dorm rooms. Continue reading “Four Hofstra Players Suspended Following Burglary Arrests”
Why Hofstra Will Struggle in the CAA
There’s no way that this Hofstra team can be as unlucky as last season’s. Really, the Pride were the most unlucky team in the nation according to Ken Pomeroy in 2011-12. Well at least that’s what you’d think, but Holy Cross pulled off the feat as recently as the 2009-10, 2010-11 seasons. Still, there’s no way that Mo Cassara – and the upgrade in talent – doesn’t help this team improve, it’s just not going to be by that much. Continue reading “Why Hofstra Will Struggle in the CAA”
Road Proves Troublesome for Locals
While Wagner and Stony Brook both won on Saturday, it was part of a 3-3 day for mid-major locals (St. John’s also won). The road proved treacherous for Columbia, Hofstra and Manhattan, while St. Francis Brooklyn survived in overtime against Brown.
