It was altogether fitting on Wednesday night that the developer of social comparison theory, Leon Fetsinger, was born and raised in Brooklyn. Continue reading “Fordham Beats George Mason Again In A-10 Tournament”

Fordham Battles VCU Tough, Is There A-10 Potential There?
Fordham could do its best to hide it, cover it up, put whatever modern medicine allows on it, but Havoc smells bad ball handling like few others in college basketball, and once exposed, there was little Fordham could do to stop it. Three Thoughts: UMass 87, Iona 82
//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js
On the surface, Iona’s 87-82 loss to UMass at the Mullins Center Tuesday night wasn’t a terrible one. First, UMass is an Atlantic-10 team that went to the NCAA Tournament last year, and is probably better than its 6-6 record (and No. 94 KenPom ranking), having played an ambitious schedule, and picking up a couple of close losses (at Harvard and BYU) that might have turned the tide for them.
In addition, UMass picked Tuesday to break out of a prolonged shooting slump from three-point range, particularly junior point guard Trey Davis, who came in shooting an ice-cold just 33.6% from the field, and was just 11-for-47 from behind the arc since the season opener. All he did against Iona was score 25 points on 10-of-11 from the floor, 5-for-6 from three-point range.
Hofstra’s Defense Struggles In Loss To La Salle
If the cliché “Defense wins championships” holds water in basketball, Hofstra has not been playing at a championship level recently. Over their last two games, the Pride are allowing opponents to shoot 51% from the field. Continue reading “Hofstra’s Defense Struggles In Loss To La Salle”
Manhattan 71, Fordham 57
Manhattan took another step towards being the team the Jaspers expected to be all along this season with a convincing 71-57 victory over Fordham Monday at the Barclays Center. Continue reading “Manhattan 71, Fordham 57”
Three Thoughts: St. John’s 74, Fordham 53
Bevon Robin was at Madison Square Garden. Not in person, though the former Fordham guard may have caught his Rams take on St. John’s in the stands. What I mean is that the Johnnies’ play, early in the first half of Sunday’s game, was so uninspired that the intra-city match-up had the makings of a classic trap game. Three Thoughts: Fordham 69, Siena 67
Siena, who trailed by as many as 13, had a chance to tie the game with just seconds left. Patrick Cole drove the ball and tossed it down low to Brett Bisping, The 6’8” junior went up with it, but it was blocked by freshman Eric Paschall to end the game and Siena’s chance at a tie. A Little Confidence Pushes La Salle Past Quinnipiac
Quinnipiac head coach Tom Moore said afterward he would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in the La Salle huddle to see what Dr. John Giannini did to keep his team upbeat even when they were going through a hideous offensive night, trailing by double digits six minutes into the second half Tuesday night at the TD Bank Center.
