Another Season In The Books

The North Carolina Tar Heels are the 2016-17 national champions thanks to their hard fought 71-65 victory over Gonzaga in an incredibly sloppy final.

And thus ends the 2016-17 college basketball season. This season NYC Buckets covered 140 live games from the Ivy League, MAAC, NEC, America East, CAA and more. I projected the NIT bracket and attended the semifinals to watch another Cinderella story. We saw the first ever Ivy League Tournament.

As the season comes to a close I want to say thank you to all of the writers who contributed to the site, especially Ray Curren, Vincent Simone, Kevin Whitaker and Ryan Peters, who delivered excellent analysis for the site. I also appreciate the contributions of Ronak Patel, Tony Graham, and Stephen Gertz. We’re always looking for new writers. Of course college basketball never really ends. There’s still a coaching search going on at LIU Brooklyn—now in its third week. The transfer market is in full swing. Come June we’ll start officially tracking non-conference schedules. We are also working on some interesting features that the rhythms of the season just didn’t leave time to report. (Got a tip? NYC Buckets has now covered six full seasons of college basketball. I’d really like to thank the administrators at the schools we cover throughout the New York City area and the rest of the NYC media for their support of this endeavor. I was rooting hard for Gonzaga on Monday night. Sure the Bulldogs have a budget that dwarfs even some major conference foes, but they still play in the West Coast Conference. It would’ve been something historic.

There’s always next season. And hopefully we’ll be there to cover it.
