Columbia released its complete 2012-13 schedule today and while the Lions will play a number of solid mid-majors there’s a stunning lack of elite teams on the docket.

Wagner and Stony Brook release schedules
The schedules keep coming fast and furiously as both Wagner and Stony Brook released their schedules. The Seahawks released their entire schedule, since the NEC has a tentative conference schedule already set, while the Seawolves sent out a rather challenging non-conference slate.
Examining Fordham’s non-conference schedule
Fordham released its non-conference schedule, or at least as much as the Rams know, last Monday. It is an odd one to be sure, but it appears that there are a variety of factors driving what will be a long time on the road for Tom Pecora’s squad in the first few months of the season.

The Weekend Ahead
College basketball season starts up in a big way this weekend. After the jump is everything you need to know about the games in, around and involving New York City teams.
“Secret” Scrimmages
Everyone know that college basketball teams scrimmage against each other, in fact its allowed in the NCAA regulations. So why are they kept a secret? Who knows, but thankfully Jeff Goodman over at CBS put together a great list of all the ones he has heard about. I’ve handpicked the ones that matter to this blog after the jump.
Can NJIT top .500?
Over the past three seasons Jim Engles has taken NJIT from 1-30 to 10-21 to 15-15. Now with a schedule that includes 18 games against teams from the Great West, independents and outside of Division I it seems like this season is the time for the Highlanders to take the next step and finish with a winning record.
Columbia’s big game schedule
The Columbia Lions are looking for a schedule that can prepare them for an Ivy League schedule and their non-conference slate, which is filled with some intriguing games should do just that.
Challenging road ahead for Iona
Don’t blame Iona for trying. The Gaels have built a schedule that will test the team’s limits during non-conference play with a tough tournament and a slew of road games against quality mid-major programs. It’s going to be a long road, but it’s also one that Iona should be equipped to handle.
Long Island’s full schedule released
The NEC already released its conference schedule, so Long Island did everyone one better and released its entire schedule from the opening game at Hofstra on November 11 until the final conference tilt at Monmouth on February 25, 2012. The fact that the schedule is bookended by two road games is no accident. The Blackbirds are going to be road warriors in 2011-12.
Hofstra not taking things easy post Jenkins
After losing Charles Jenkins, the leading scorer in school history, to graduation you’d think maybe Hofstra would take things a little easier. Maybe the Pride would try and get a few games against some lower tier conference schools or play an invitational instead of a big non-conference event.
At first it seems like that’s the case. This season there’s only one major conference opponent on the schedule (Oregon State), last season there were two (North Carolina and Nebraska in Puerto Rico). Beyond that though the schedule has definitely gotten tougher, as many of the local squads Mo Cassara’s team will play this season have improved and the rest of the schedule is no slouch either.
