Albany Battles Until End, But Oklahoma A Little Too Tough

COLUMBUS, Ohio – They had most of the crowd, the entire nation of Australia, and anyone who happened to come across the heartwarming story of Peter Hooley on its side Friday night.

Unfortunately, they didn’t have Big 12 size and athleticism.

Albany’s Australian Pipeline Half A Decade Strong

Over the last three seasons Albany has been consistent for one thing in the America East: winning championships. However, this season marks the fifth straight season in which the Great Danes possessed at least one Australian on their roster. Continue reading “Albany’s Australian Pipeline Half A Decade Strong”

Oklahoma Respectful, But Not Interested In Albany Backstory

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Like some others who emerge from the mid-major shadows in March, Peter Hooley went from relatively unknown (outside the America East and Australia, of course) national figure to a household name in the time it takes for a basketball to travel 25 feet with a slight arc.

But, even by the those standards, Hooley is not your ordinary instant college basketball hero. How Exactly Did UMBC Get Down To Seven Players? (And Some Albany Notes)

Will Brown called Saturday’s Albany practice “the worst of the season” and said he was extremely concerned how his team would react against UMBC Sunday afternoon.

Three Thoughts: Albany 62, Hartford 53

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, and Albany just may be the team to beat in America East with or without Peter Hooley.

For the second time in four days, the Great Danes went on the road against a team picked above them in the preseason conference coaches’ poll and systematically took them apart, this time a 62-53 win over Hartford Thursday night at Chase Family Arena, in which the host Hawks (11-8, 4-2) led only once and that was 3-2.

Albany Loss Hurts For Stony Brook, But It’s Not March Yet

It was de ja vu all over again for Stony Brook fans Monday night, many of whom were in approximately the same seat (albeit a much nicer one since Stony Brook Arena has been refurbished and rebranded as Island Federal Credit Union Arena) three years ago as the Seawolves’ shooting aim inexplicably disappeared at the worst possible time, shooting just 4-19 from behind the arc and 17-58 from the field as Vermont came in and took the America East title, 51-43.
