Underclassmen Fueling Rider’s MAAC Success

Rider currently holds sole possession of first place in the MAAC, and a major reason why is the play of its young core players. The Broncs have now reached 10 league wins in the quickest span since the 2007-08 season despite 75% of the team’s minutes coming from underclassmen. MAAC Weekly Recap & Power Rankings – February 7

1) Rider (17-7, 10-2 MAAC) – 74-59 W @ Quinnipiac (2/4)

The Broncs retain their spot atop this week’s rankings after becoming the first team to reach 10 league wins. Stevie Jordan led four Broncs in double figures in the win at Quinnipiac. MAAC Weekly Recap & Power Rankings – January 31

It was an eventful week in the MAAC, and one full of rivalry games. The Battle of the Bridge was renewed in Buffalo, the New Jersey trio squared off against one another in the Hourglass rivalry, Fairfield and Quinnipiac met for the first time this season, along with Iona and Manhattan, and I’m pretty sure Siena and Saint Peter’s don’t want to see each other again for a long time. MAAC Weekly Recap & Power Rankings – January 17

Heading into the meat of the conference season, we are beginning to see some separation in the MAAC standings. Meanwhile, Siena got its first taste of life without Nico Clareth and Niagara continues to win close games. Continue reading “MAAC Weekly Recap & Power Rankings – January 17”

MAAC Weekly Recap & Power Rankings – January 10

The second week of MAAC play brought as many surprises as the first. We have a new top team this week (but one that’s been there before!) after winless Siena upset undefeated Canisius, proving just how wide-open the league is this year. There is plenty of movement in the middle of the rankings as well after Niagara evened its record at 2-2 and Manhattan dropped a pair.

With plenty to look into, let’s dive right in! Continue reading “MAAC Weekly Recap & Power Rankings – January 10”

MAAC Weekly Recap – December 27

These are the final MAAC Power Rankings before the start of non-conference play this week. This season, the MAAC shifted from a 20-game schedule to an 18 game slate in which each team will forego one home and one road contest. The league has played 20 games each of the last four seasons beginning with 2013-14 when Monmouth and Quinnipiac joined the league. Continue reading “MAAC Weekly Recap – December 27”

MAAC Weekly Recap – December 20

1) Iona (6-5) – 69-59 L @ St. John’s (12/17); 82-68 W @ Holy Cross (12/19)

The Gaels retain the top spot in this week’s rankings despite a split of the week. Tim Cluess’ squad played St. John’s tight in the first half, entering the break knotted at 25, but a 19-4 run out of intermission propelled the Johnnies to victory in the teams’ first meeting since 1995.
