For a team like Iona, whose bench plays the 11th fewest minutes of any team in the country, losing any of the starters is akin to disaster. Continue reading “Iona Seeking Answers, Options Without Isaiah Williams”

Boston University Holds Off American, Patriot League Remains Tightly Packed
Before Wednesday’s visit to Agganis Arena, American had won three straight games thanks to three last-second shots by Pee Wee Gardner. Meanwhile, Boston University had lost three in a row, two of which were decided on the final play. So when the Eagles clawed within one possession and had the ball entering the final minute, it looked like their streak of late-game highlights might continue. As part of the coverage, I joined Kim Adams for a hit on the ESPN3 broadcast on Monday to talk America East basketball. Here is the video, check it out! Albany Loss Hurts For Stony Brook, But It’s Not March Yet
It was de ja vu all over again for Stony Brook fans Monday night, many of whom were in approximately the same seat (albeit a much nicer one since Stony Brook Arena has been refurbished and rebranded as Island Federal Credit Union Arena) three years ago as the Seawolves’ shooting aim inexplicably disappeared at the worst possible time, shooting just 4-19 from behind the arc and 17-58 from the field as Vermont came in and took the America East title, 51-43. Northeastern’s Offense Enhanced, But Not Invincible
The top reason Northeastern is tied for the Colonial lead at 5-1 is a resurgent offense. In conference play last season, the Huskies ranked seventh of nine teams in offensive efficiency en route to a 7-9 record. With mostly the same personnel, the Huskies have scored 1.09 points per possession to date, second-best in the CAA behind co-leader William & Mary (and ahead of Hofstra). But as Detroit proved in an 81-69 overtime victory Monday, Northeastern’s offense can be defeated by teams that protect the paint.
