Stony Brook Picked Second in America East, Brenton Unanimous All-Conference Pick
The Seawolves, coming off a regular season conference championship, were picked second in the preseason America East poll on Tuesday at America East Basketball Media Day.
Stony Brook gained four of eight possible first place votes and 58 total points. Vermont was named the first place team in the poll with 60 points and five first place votes.
Coaches cannot vote for their own team as part of the preseason poll. Boston University, which is ineligible for the championship as they will be moving to the Patriot League after this season, placed third. Albany, which will host the 2013 America East Tournament, placed fourth. Maine, New Hampshire, Hartford, UMBC and Binghamton round out the final five in the nine team league.
Senior Tommy Brenton was unanimously named to the six-man preseason All-America East team. Brenton, last season’s Defensive Player of the Year, joined Albany senior Mike Black as the only two unanimous selections to the team.
Boston University’s D.J. Irving, UMBC’s Chase Plummer, Maine’s Alasdair Fraser and Vermont’s Brian Voelkel were all voted to the preseason All-Conference team.
