Since its exam break it seems like a good time to hand out some grades for each of the area teams. These grades are based on preseason expectations and there is absolutely no grade inflation here. Most teams are going to be in the C range and you’ll notice that I’ve liberally handed out a bunch of D’s as well. If you think your school deserved a better one feel free to argue in the comments. They’re listed from best to worst and I’ve also included a special one grade at the end.

Battling Back Monday a Success
Earlier today I wrote that tonight offered a good chance for a number of local schools to get their seasons back on track. Thanks to three victories that’s exactly what happened. That includes two victories over Division I teams on the road, which makes it all the more impressive.
Trying to get back on track
NJIT, St. Francis (NY) and Fordham all are on the court looking for the same thing tonight, to get back on track. All three schools have suffered some tough defeats recently and tonight each has a chance to get a win. Let’s look at all three with mini previews.
Tuesday Preview: Basketball all around
Tonight is a big night for college basketball in around New York City. I’ll be at the Jimmy V. Classic watching Missouri vs. Villanova and Marquette vs. Washington from Madison Square Garden, but you can catch action in Staten Island, Newark and Morningside Heights tonight. Here’s what to watch for in those three games.
NJIT’s quest for .500: So far, so good
Throughout the season I’ll be checking back in on the NJIT Highlanders as they attempt to finish .500 or better this season. After tonight’s 54-52 upset victory over Army Jim Engles’ squad is now 3-3 on the season. They’ve certainly got a chance of staying even for the season.
Saturday Round Up: Hofstra gets big win
Saturday was a busy day in college basketball. Besides Columbia’s win over Manhattan, full coverage of which you can find below, there were five other games on the schedule. Hofstra got the biggest win of the day, a 63-53 victory over Cleveland State, but there were some other good wins as well.
Sunday Wrap Up: Iona crushes Maryland
It was a really good day for the New York area teams as every single one won. Three of the games were blowouts. Here are a few notes from each of the games.
Monday Round Up, Tuesday Look Ahead
The ESPN 24-hours of College Hoops marathon is currently going on. That’s great if you want to catch a game at any point today, because there will always be a game on. If you just want to know what happened last night see below, including underneath this post for a recap of Columbia’s loss to Furman.
Sunday Round Up, Monday Look Ahead
Stony Brook was the only area team to play on Sunday, but the action cranks up on Monday with five local teams in action. Everything you need to know is after the jump.
Saturday Round Up
Be sure to check out my recap of the Princeton-Wagner game below, but there were four other games involving area teams yesterday, including three against Big East teams. St. Francis (NY) came oh so close to scoring the first major upset of the season, but fell 75-71 in overtime to Seton Hall last night. Read more about that game and the other three contests after the jump.
