These are a day later than I had hoped, for a variety of reasons, but I think they’re important, because Manhattan’s game against Siena on Sunday afternoon, a 75-55 victory, showed a lot of growth from the young Jaspers. Continue reading “5 Thoughts: Manhattan Gets First MAAC Win”

The Early Season Tempo-Free MAAC
Conference play arrives a little early for the MAAC as the December weekend helps fit in the 18-game round-robin format. The good news is that these games really matter. The bad news is that two games, while a ninth of the conference slate is still a pretty small sample. What teams looked good? Here are the tempo-free rankings. NYC Area Power Poll: The Early Returns
It is time. Most area teams have played at least five games and thus it is time to introduce the Big Apple Buckets Power Poll. Continue reading “NYC Area Power Poll: The Early Returns”
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly as MAAC Opens Conference Play
It wasn’t the best week in the world for the MAAC, but a small pack of teams are starting to separate themselves as legitimate title contenders as the season continues. Iona, Loyola (MD) and Fairfield look to be the class of the league right now as Manhattan has struggled against a difficult schedule. 5 Thoughts on the Battle of the Bronx
The 105th Battle of the Bronx was played last night at Rose Hill and Manhattan gutted out a 65-58 victory over Fordham. Michael Alvarado was named the MVP of the game after scoring 19 points.
Preview: The Battle of the Bronx
The Battle of the Bronx is tomorrow night and it should be a good game between Manhattan and Fordham. The Rams are going to be without Chris Gaston after knee surgery, but there always seems to be a little bit of magic at Rose Hill. Jaden Daly is back to answer questions about Fordham prior to the match up. I also some for him about Manhattan.
Lots of Awards to Hand Out
NYC area mid-majors had a relatively strong week and it was represented today as leagues handed out weekly awards and many of their players were amongst the honorees. Here is a quick rundown of all the honors that were garnered.
MAAC Weekly Recap: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
We’re into the third week into college basketball season and Ryan Peters is having so much fun with The Good, The Bad and The Ugly weekly recaps for the NEC I wanted my own gig. I’m going to be doing this weekly now for the wide-open MAAC. How wide open is the league? As of Sunday morning Pomeroy projected all 10 MAAC teams between 7 and 12 conference wins. Road Proves Troublesome for Locals
While Wagner and Stony Brook both won on Saturday, it was part of a 3-3 day for mid-major locals (St. John’s also won). The road proved treacherous for Columbia, Hofstra and Manhattan, while St. Francis Brooklyn survived in overtime against Brown.
Busy Saturday on Tap in College Hoops
Saturday is typically a day when people think about college basketball, but give thanks for Thanksgiving holiday because now there are a ton of basketball teams in action today. Most of the New York City teams are on the road (though Stony Brook and St. John’s are home), which means it will be a tough day to get wins. It’ll also be a late one, as the final game – Columbia at San Francisco – isn’t until 10 p.m. ET. Continue reading “Busy Saturday on Tap in College Hoops”
