Charles Jenkins and seniors in the NBA Draft

Ballin’ is a Habit is the latest site to profile Hofstra’s Charles Jenkins. It’s pretty much what you’d expect, but BIAH has Bjorn Zetterberg of SwishScout.com doing the previews and he’s doing a real thorough job, so check it out. Interestingly, Zetterberg has Jenkins in the Mid-to-Late First Round.

If that’s the case, then some NBA team is probably going to be getting a reliable contributor. Justin Young over at National Hoops Report has some good stats about seniors in the NBA Draft. Hopefully NBA teams will heed the advice and Jenkins will end up getting a nice reserve role for a quality NBA team next season.

RTC draft profile of Charles Jenkins

The ubiquitous college basketball blog Rush The Court is compiling draft profiles of all the draft-eligible players that played in the NCAA last season. Today it was Charles Jenkins’ turn. RTC has Jenkins as an early second round prospect, but I’ve seen him as #28 in mock drafts.

Hofstra’s Jenkins was 4th most valuable player in Division I last season

According to this post on Cracked Sidewalks (a Marquette University college basketball blog), Hofstra’s Charles Jenkins was the fourth most valuable player in all of college basketball last season. The Pride scored 7.46% more points than they would’ve without him according to CS’ calculations.

Where are the recruits coming from?

While only nine of the 29 recruits currently committed to New York City mid-majors are playing high school basketball in the state, that number is pretty deceiving about how well schools are mining the talent base of the city. How does Hofstra replace Jenkins?

Last season Hofstra went 21-12 and played in the CBI in Mo Cassara’s first season. But he had some help, senior Charles Jenkins. The dynamite 6’3 guard from Queens was the driver behind the Pride’s offense for the past four seasons. He averaged 22.6 points per game last season. Now begins life after Jenkins.

How is Hofstra going to deal with that loss? It’s certainly not going to be easy.

Attendance figures released

The NCAA wants everyone to know that 32.6 million people watched college basketball games live last season. Most of those numbers come from schools like Kentucky and Syracuse, but they did release team-by-team numbers as well. Here’s a look at each school’s total.

Charles Jenkins wins another award

Congrats to Hofstra’s Charles Jenkins. He picked up another today with the announcement of the Haggerty Award, which goes to the player of the year in the New York metropolitan area. (Which means it includes the major conference guys as well.)

It was Jenkins’ third straight season winning the award. I guess he’ll have to give it up to someone else next season. (Since he’s graduating at all.)
