Be sure to check out my recap of the Princeton-Wagner game below, but there were four other games involving area teams yesterday, including three against Big East teams. St. Francis (NY) came oh so close to scoring the first major upset of the season, but fell 75-71 in overtime to Seton Hall last night. Read more about that game and the other three contests after the jump.

Three Questions – Fordham
As the season approaches every team has questions. This series is going to look at three key ones.
1. Can the Rams avoid finishing last in the Atlantic 10? — Fordham is 2-46 in Atlantic 10 play the past three seasons. The Rams haven’t finished higher than 12th since the 2006-07 season, when they went 18-12. Right now though a 12th place finish seems impossible (though one person is on record for it), but getting out the basement of the standings could happen.
“Secret” Scrimmages
Everyone know that college basketball teams scrimmage against each other, in fact its allowed in the NCAA regulations. So why are they kept a secret? Who knows, but thankfully Jeff Goodman over at CBS put together a great list of all the ones he has heard about. I’ve handpicked the ones that matter to this blog after the jump.

Five Nights – December
As non-conference play comes to a close, a few schools are going to get an early jump on conference games as well. One of those games appears in our top five. The big event at MSG this month is the Jimmy V Classic – Missouri vs. Villanova, Marquette vs. Washington – but there’s another set of games on the schedule at The Garden that makes this list as well.
New York Power Rankings – Preseason Edition
There are a bunch of teams in and around the New York City area. What better way to get a handle on them by putting them into your classic power ranking? Note: In order to be included in the power rankings a team’s campus has to be within a 65 mile radius of Manhattan according to Google Maps. That means that every team that plays Division I basketball in New Jersey is also included along with a few Connecticut teams. Let me know if you think I’ve missed anyone. From now on these will get updated every Wednesday and contain a little feature at the top instead of this boring explanatory blurb. Away we go…

Villanova by the Numbers on Fordham
I’ve been impressed with the graphs over at Villanova by the Numbers all offseason and a first look at the Atlantic 10 didn’t disappoint. While the curves don’t reveal anything too shocking for Fordham, they’re worth checking out. The offensive plateau will certainly be worth keeping an eye on this season. Also, scroll down to the Massachusetts graph. It’s the most interesting one yet.
New York Panthers players get Twitter shout outs
The New York Panthers might have lost to Playaz in the quarterfinals of the iS8/Nike Spring High School Classic 75-73 on Sunday, but two NYC recruits got shout outs from media members in attendance.

Fordham going to Loyola
Schedule details are leaking out and here’s another one. Fordham is going to be playing at Loyola (Ill.) to christen the Ramblers’ new athletic facility. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 26 in Chicago. In another bit of Loyola scheduling, it appears the Ramblers won’t be coming to Jersey City to return their BracketBuster game from last season with St. Peter’s, so expect to see them in 2012-13.
Where are the recruits coming from?
While only nine of the 29 recruits currently committed to New York City mid-majors are playing high school basketball in the state, that number is pretty deceiving about how well schools are mining the talent base of the city. Take a deeper look and see just what some schools are doing to revive and build their programs.
