Albany, N.Y. – Iona is on their way to yet another MAAC championship game.
The Gaels got around Siena 81-70 in front of a crowd of 5,722 at the Times Union Center Sunday evening. A.J. English led all scorers with 29 points, and added five assists and five steals to his stat line.
Isaiah Williams scored 17 first half points and finished with 23. The senior forward added 11 rebounds to complete his fourth double-double of the season and with his fifth point of the night became the 37th player in Iona history to eclipse the 1,000 point barrier.
Siena placed four players in double figures, led by 18 from freshman Nico Clareth. Brett Bisping scored 16 along with nine rebounds. Lavon Long added 16 while Javion Ogunyemi posted 13.
The Gaels advance to play Monmouth in the MAAC championship game Monday at 7:00 pm on ESPN. The teams split the season’s two meetings, with each winning on the other’s home floor. Monmouth won a 110-102 shootout in New Rochelle while Iona got revenge 83-67 in West Long Branch.
