Entering the final season of his contract in September, head coach Bill Herrion had little doubt that New Hamsphire would do right by him.
Since then, the Wildcats have tied their school record for victories in a season (19) for a second straight year. They will have a chance to exceed that under Herrion as the 57 year-old confirmed that he signed a four year contract extension with the school.
“I felt very confident that, administratively, that they were going to do the right thing,” Herrion said. “I’ve got a great AD, we’ve got a great president, we’ve got a great administration and I’m just really happy to be here at UNH and be able to continue what we’ve built. I still think we have some really good years ahead of us.”
Last season the Wildcats tied a school record with 19 victories, last set during the 1994-95 season. This season New Hampshire has reached the same win plateau and finds themselves in the America East Playoff semifinals at Vermont on Monday night at 7:30pm.
If they win on Monday, they will set a new school record with 20 victories and have a chance at their first NCAA tournament bid in school history against the winner of Hartford at Stony Brook. Tanner Leissner, after becoming the first Wildcat to win Rookie of the Year since Pat Manor in 1990, as a sophomore became the first player to be named All-America East in 11 seasons.
Herrion owns a 371-358 record in his career across stops at Drexel, East Carolina and now New Hampshire. Last season the Wildcats reached postseason play for the first time in school history, falling to NJIT in the first round of the CIT.
