Stony Brook defeated Hofstra 71-68 on Sunday thanks to clutch plays by seniors Jameel Warney and Carson Puriefoy to lift the Seawolves to their second straight win.
Warney led the way with 22 points and nine rebounds, while Hofstra senior Ameen Tanksley led all scorers with 23 points and junior Brian Bernardi added 22 points. For Stony Brook, it was their best outside shooting day against a Division I opponent, which bodes well for their future. For the Pride, they showed signs of coming through on turning around their defense, but their struggles due to lack of depth could be a concern moving forward. Both coaches said they like playing this rivalry game and hope that more area rivals will take notice.
