The sites writers confuse even me sometimes. Apparently St. John’s two-game losing streak, combined with Iona’s fantastic play of late has created some chaos at the top of the power poll. The Gaels have claimed first place, a standing they haven’t had all season!
There’s a big game coming up at Draddy Gymnasium on Friday as the Gaels travel to Manhattan for a MAAC showdown. I also think it’s particularly interesting that Quinnipiac is fourth in this poll despite being ahead of Manhattan in the MAAC standings and beating them head-to-head. Sometimes those voters just can’t get out of their own way.
Here is the Week 17 Power Poll!
NYC Area Power Poll:
- Iona: 57 points (3 first place votes)
- St. John’s: 55 points (3)
- Manhattan: 45 points
- Quinnipiac: 44 points
- Stony Brook: 33 points
- Columbia: 30 points
- Wagner: 24 points
- Yale: 23 points
- St. Francis Brooklyn: 8 points
- Saint Peter’s: 4 points
Others receiving votes: Seton Hall (3 points), Fairleigh Dickinson (2 points), Rider (1 point), LIU Brooklyn (1 point)
It’s funny that even though Yale is in front of CU in the Ivy League standings the game on Sunday weighed heavily on the voter’s minds – and understandably so. Also, the one vote for LIU wanted to note that it’s a sentimental vote to recognize Jason Brickman for excellent career. Obviously we’ll have much more on LIU’s fantastic senior – who has the fourth most assists in NCAA history – coming up soon.
RE: YOUR POLL FEB 26, 14 NO WAY IONA IS BETTER THAN ST. JOHN’S. POSITIONS THREE THROUGH TEN ARE ALSO VERY SUSPECT.. SETON HALL AND FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON ARE
BETTER THAN ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN AND ST. PETER’S..ALSO WAGNER BETTER THAN
STONY BROOK OR QUINNIPIAC. I CAN’T SPEAK TO THE IVY LEAGUE SELECTIONS BUT
SOMEHOW BELEIVE COLUMBIA IS STRONGER THAN STONY BROOK.LAST WEEKS POLL
POSITIONS NINE AND TEN WERE ALSO BAD..LOOK FORWARD TO NEXT WEEKS POLL
MAYBE SOME POSITIONS WILL FIRM UP AS THE SEASON COMES TO AN END. LET’S
HEAR SOME OTHER THOUGHTS REGARDING FEB 26 POLL . IT WILL CREATE A LOT OF
BUZZ RELATING TO NEW YORK AREA BASKETBALL AND THAT’S VERY GOOD FOR NYC
COLLEGE BASKETBALL.
