NYC Area Power Poll: Jan. 23

Well, it wasn’t a great week to be from the New York City area, except for Seton Hall at Georgetown. The results weren’t particularly impressive and thus Manhattan stays No. 1 mostly through poll momentum. The Jaspers were there last week, but it’s not well earned. If George Beamon comes back soon though, watch out!

The Pirates are getting healthy and have a chance to solidify their spot (and even move up) with a win over local rival St. John’s on tonight. This poll is late, but it could change awfully quickly considering the full slate of NEC games on Thursday along with the marquee Big East game. Some of the teams near the bottom of the poll have some tough games, including St. Francis Brooklyn with a tricky game at Fairleigh Dickinson.

Fordham is receiving votes and the Rams just got an important win over George Mason on Wednesday. The Rams seem like a team that probably deserves to be getting a little more respect, but they might have to wait until February 1st at home against Rhode Island to get another victory in the Atlantic 10 with road games at Massachusetts and VCU up next.

The full Power Poll:

  1. Manhattan (3 first place votes) – 47 points
  2. Princeton (2) – 46 points
  3. Seton Hall – 37 points
  4. Quinnipiac – 34 points
  5. St. John’s – 33 points
  6. Columbia – 23 points
  7. Stony Brook – 21 points
  8. Iona – 19 points
  9. Wagner – 7 points
  10. St. Francis Brooklyn – 5 points

Also receiving votes: Fordham (3 points)

Chances this poll changes dramatically by next week? Extremely high.
