The Weekend Ahead

College basketball season starts up in a big way this weekend. After the jump is everything you need to know about the games in, around and involving New York City teams.

Where I’ll Be:

Friday: Long Island at Hofstra (7 p.m.) – The Blackbirds start their march back to the NCAA tournament with a difficult road game. Hofstra lost Charles Jenkins, but the Pride have some intriguing players in junior college transfer Bryant Crowder and Rhode Island transfer Stevie Mejia. Ken Pomeroy’s odds have this as a fast game that anyone could win. Hofstra is a 57% favorite at home.

Saturday: Wagner at Princeton (5 p.m.) – This is the Saturday Game of the Week! So check back early tomorrow morning for a Q&A and lots of information about this game.

Sunday: UMBC at St. John’s (2 p.m.) – I’ll be live-blogging this game for Rush the Court. I really just want to watch Chris De La Rosa against the Red Storm’s press. St. John’s struggled against Lehigh in Steve Lavin’s return to the bench. Will he be able to tighten the ship up before Sunday afternoon?

What Else You Can Watch:

Friday: Columbia at #4 Connecticut – 7 p.m. on ESPNU; Stony Brook at Indiana – 7 p.m. on Big Ten Network
Saturday: NJIT at Manhattan – 2 p.m. live; St. Francis (NY) at Seton Hall – 7 p.m. on SNY; Fordham at #5 Syracuse – 4 p.m. on SNY
Sunday: Mount Ida College at Stony Brook – 2 p.m. live

Away From Home:

Friday: St. Peter’s at Buffalo – 7 p.m.
Saturday: Fairleigh Dickinson at Providence – 2 p.m.

Who You Can’t Watch:

Iona – The Gaels don’t play until the Puerto Rico Tip-Off on Thursday, Nov. 17 against Purdue.
