Attendance figures released

The NCAA wants everyone to know that 32.6 million people watched college basketball games live last season. Most of those numbers come from schools like Kentucky and Syracuse, but they did release team-by-team numbers as well. Here’s a look at each school’s total.

All numbers are fans per game.

  • Columbia: 1,317
  • Fordham: 1,938
  • Hofstra: 3,073
  • Iona: 2,095
  • Long Island: 962
  • Manhattan: 1,249
  • NJIT: 455
  • St. Francis (NY): 546
  • St. Peter’s: 886
  • Stony Brook: 1,555
  • Wagner: 1,528

The team ranked 100th in overall attendance, Marshall, drew an average of 5,524 fans per game. I think that helps put some context around the numbers. Also, all the teams in the NEC drew an average of 1,237 fans per game last season. That’s up 143 fans per game from the 2009-2010 season, but still 31st amongst all conferences in NCAA Division I. Two NCAA Division II conferences, the Mid-America and Northern Sun, drew more fans per game than the NEC.

Hofstra is right around the average for a CAA school, which was 3,748 fans per game, the 12th best conference mark.

Wagner is the only school on the list that drew more than their conference average last season.

Amongst mid-major conferences the Atlantic 10 had the largest drop in attendance falling 350 fans per game. Still, the league finished 10th in attendance behind the seven power conferences, Missouri Valley and Conference USA.
